Frequently Asked Questions

1. What services does Prairie North Cardiology offer?

We provide comprehensive cardiac care, including consultations, diagnostic testing (such as echocardiograms, and ECGs) and ongoing management of heart conditions like arrythmias, coronary artery disease, heart failure and more.

2. Do I need a referral to see a cardiologist?

Yes, a referral from your family doctor or other healthcare specialists is required to book an appointment with our cardiologists.

3. What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring a list of your current medications.

4. How can I book an appointment?

Appointments are booked after receiving a referral.  Once we have your referral, we will send it to the appropriate doctor and we wait for the doctor to triage your appointment.  Once a triage is in place, we will send you a letter to your mailbox.  Please note: We do not give out wait times for new referrals as this time frame can change monthly.

Testing and Procedures:

1. What is an echocardiogram, and how should I prepare for it?

An echocardiogram is a non-invasive ultrasound test that evaluates the structure and function of the heart.  There is no special preparation required, but wearing comfortable clothes is recommended.

2.How long do tests take?

Upon coming to your appointment, you will be asked to do an ECG (if you are seeing a cardiologist that day)  ECGs take approximately 5 minutes.

Echocardiogram can take approximately 35-45 minutes.
